Rafael Nadal has one of the most dangerous forehands in all of tennis.

But what is the secret behind his success?

Nadal’s success is well known, he has been ranked No 1 for over 200 weeks, he has won 21 Grand Slam titles, including 13 French Open titles, and holds the record for the most consecutive wins on clay at 81.

But besides an amazing amount of talent and incredible tennis skills — what is it that gives his forehand the edge to beat the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic?

The answer to that question are his eyes

Rafa has a fantastic ability to anticipate what his opponent will do next and when and where the ball will be, allowing his powerful forehand to be unleashed.

In addition, his hand-eye coordination is incredible.

By being able to anticipate where the ball will be and correctly timing its position for the return shot, he is able to bring his hands, as well as his body, into just the right position at just the right time, to make the impossible shot look easy

In fact, his forehand produces more than twice the topspin of tennis greats Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi who have rates of 1800–1900 spins/minute and more than that of Roger Federer’s 2700 spins/minute.

Nadal’s forehand averages 3200 and can be up to 4,900 revs/min!

Hand-Eye Coordination and visually based anticipation

Incredible hand-eye coordination and visually based anticipation are among the many skills that allow him to be one of the best at breaking serve, and provide a consistently high percentage of return points and break points won.

Have you tested your hand-eye coordination and evaluated how well you can anticipate an action?

Many athletes think about vision as only what you can see — but it is so much more!

Sports Vision begins with the eyes and ends with a perfectly timed arm or leg movement to win at your sport.

A sports Vision evaluation goes far beyond simply what you can see on the eye chart, and tests, optimizes, and trains all aspects of performance that depend on vision for success.
