Serena and Venus Williams are among the best tennis professionals ever seen.

Serena has won 23 grand slam titles, the second most of all time. She has been ranked number 1 for 319 weeks and has finished the year as number 1 five times, she has earned nearly 95 million dollars in prize money putting her first in all-time rankings.

Venus Williams has won 7 grand slam titles, 5 at Wimbledon and 2 at the US Open. She has earned over 42 million dollars in prize money, putting her second only behind her younger sister Serena

The 2022 US Open is Serena Williams’ final tournament and may also be the last for her older sister Venus. Serena and Venus have been a potent combination on the court, both in singles and doubles competitions.

This didn’t come easy though!

Venus Williams has battled another opponent

That opponent is called Sjogren’s syndrome

As a competitive athlete, it’s not uncommon to have swollen and achy muscles and joints — but for Venus, this was different. After 6 years of swollen joints, fatigue, as well as dry eyes, and mouth Venus was diagnosed with Sjögren syndrome.

Sjogren syndrome is an autoimmune condition where our body attacks itself, by mistake.

If you have joint pain, fatigue, dry eyes, and mouth make sure you have an exam by a Sports Vision Specialist to learn more about this condition, whether you have this, and its impact on your sports performance.

Fortunately, Venus adopted a vegan diet and limited intake of inflammatory foods like sugar as well as overall calories and was able to return to competition.
